Rebecca Maney *****What a Wonderful Book! One of the best, yet simplest, conversations about a topic that touches the lives of so many children, their families, their friends, their teachers. The "Helpful Hints for Friends" sprinkled throughout the book are insightful and practical! Stay tuned! This is the beginning of a series. Chris Wade *****Great way to encourage the appreciation of diversity in the classroom! As a special education teacher I found this book very valuable not only in reminding myself of the special aspects of the child with autism (in particular the part about energy drainers and energy builders), but a great introduction for all students in the classroom to gain an understanding of some of the peers in their midst who might seem a bit different. I especially enjoyed the bits of humor throughout and the end where Nathan's states "That was exhausting" and goes to his room to play with blocks by himself. Such a great representation of student's with this disability, while still stressing the individuality of each child.  Amazon Customer *****Awesome book all around! Loved reading Nathan's Autism Spectrum Superpowers! It's a great book and beautifully written. It helps clearly articulate the various forms of autism so children and parents can get a better understanding. Well done! . Sue Stone *****Great book with awesome tips. For all ages. I was gifted this book by a friend. I have a grandson on the spectrum and this really helped me to understand what is happening with him. I've read several books but all were geared to adults and very clinical. This gave great tips and suggestions and will help us going forward. I bought 2 more copies for the other set of grandparents and his parents. I think it will really allow his big brother learn to help too. Love it.

What makes Nathan a superhero? His Autism Spectrum Superpowers! -Nathan's Autism Spectrum Superpowers, the first book in the One Three Nine Inspired series, offers a unique perspective on how kids with autism see the world. Each superpower also comes with a "Helpful Hints" section for friends, families, and caregivers because sometimes superpowers can spiral out of control. -Why this new perspective? I wanted my son to know that just because he reacted to things differently than his friends, that didn't make him odd, it made him special. So I came up with an idea to explain autism in a way that made sense to him. After I told Nathan about "Supersonic Hearing," he finally understood why noises could be so loud and overwhelming, and he wanted to know ALL his superpowers. -Several years later, Nathan had a group project for school. His friend Ethan, who also has autism, was in the group too. During Ethan's turn, the other boys hounded him about hurrying up and being done. That's when Nathan stepped in. "You don't know this, but Ethan has superpowers. Right now, he's using his power of Absolute Select Focus. ASF for short. He's focusing all his energy on the project and probably doesn't even hear you. Give him a couple minutes, and he'll let you know when he's done." Ethan's mom almost cried. No adult had ever talked positively about his autism, much less a child who was able to explain what was going on to other children in a way they could understand. -All kids need to believe they're wonderfully made. Nathan's Autism Spectrum Superpowers helps show them their value and encourages them to believe in their own worth. -Coming in Spring 2019--Hannah's Down Syndrome Superpowers.

My son is 6 1/2 with high functioning verbal autism. We have been doing all kinds of therapy for 3 years and this book is how we explained to him why. It was wonderful. A few things I paraphrased and explained because some of the words were a little big. But hes also young. It takes something that could be so scary and intimidating and paints it in such a positive way. He was actually excited and relieved to relate to the book and at the thought that he has superpowers. It even has a section to work through and write down his own superpowers and his own power drained (or kryptonite as they put it) His dad and I read the book over 3 nights and he is going to work through the workbook part with myself and his wraparound therapist. I couldnt have asked for a more positive way to tell my child something that could be so terrifying to a 6 year old
What an innovative, accessible book! "Nathan's Superpowers" not only assures children that their differences can be helpful, but it also instructs others on how to best accommodate those differences. There's so much helpful information in this book that you could pick any page and make it a poster for parents, teachers and therapists. The ebook was a great read, but I can't wait to get the printed copy so it's easier to share.
What a wonderful, informative book for parents and kids! This is the first book I have seen that breaks down specific “superpowers†that ASD kids may experience. The simple explanation for kids and adults to understand is further enhanced by the real life situations and friends helpful hints. The vocabulary that is introduced in a very friendly way explains many of the common phrases and definitions used by educators and doctors. This information makes the book a great introduction for those who are wanting more information on autism. As a kindergarten teacher this book has become a very important one in my reading rotation. We are all uniquely made and the beauty of this book is that it highlights positively how autism makes Nathan unique.
I didn't like this book very much and neither did my kids. It was like an educated adult, who doesn't associate with kids, attempted to write a children's book in a child's point of view and failed miserably. If you're not around kids much, it's hard to explain something complicated to a child. The author had good intent, but they just suck at relating to kids. There are too many big words and too much explanation on one page. My kids lost interest and when my autistic child was listening to it, it seemed to dampen his mood. It was focusing a bit too much on the challenges of autism than the actual superpowers. The superpowers listed were more like names for the struggles of autism and I think it made my son feel like a problem child instead of a superhero. I thought for sure that this book was going to be super positive because I think my child is a superhero, and I thought this would be a perfect way to explain how awesome he is. But it absolutely wasn't. It was very dull and a bit too negative for children. I would suggest looking into an autism spectrum book by a different author. The picture is just one of the many pages. Most of the pages are like this. It's just not appealing to children. This is more of an adult read that might interest adults, but not children.
One of the best, yet simplest, conversations about a topic that touches the lives of so many children, their families, their friends, their teachers. The "Helpful Hints for Friends" sprinkled throughout the book are insightful and practical!Stay tuned! This is the beginning of a series.
First of all, the illustrations are really cute! But what I really like about this book is that is written by a mom for her autistic son to help him understand himself and for those around him to also understand him better. It is hard for those who are unfamiliar with autism to know what to expect or how to respond. This book provides that knowledge. I also like the fact that what can often be perceived as a weakness, the author reveals as a strength.
Nathan's Autism Spectrum Superpowers is one of the best books out there for understanding what it's like to be autistic. I love the way autism is shown in such a positive light as a superpower. If you know a child or a parent of a child who's on the spectrum, this book is an amazing tool.
Wonderfully executed and beautifully illustrated. As a licensed professional counselor I am overjoyed to find such a resource that can be used for teaching children, families, and communities about ASD. I love the strength-based approach that this book takes on and the uplifting scripture that emphasizes the heart behind the creation of this book. As children’s ministry teacher and family member to some amazing individuals who have ASD I am grateful for a book that further illustrates how all children are fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank you and God bless the future works that are to come and will no doubt have a positive impact on others. Steph D. H. Evans, LPC-MHSP
