I began a video project yesterday in Photoshop CC and quickly found that it was inadequate for the task. As a CC member, I was able to download Premiere Pro CC. The only problem is that I've never used it before and know nothing about it. I struggled through some videos on the Adobe site, then came to Amazon, read reviews of how-to books, and ordered this one.It was a great choice. To be fair, I am not a beginner. I have done video editing before, but that was back in the analog days, and I use other Adobe products, so understand the structure of their programs. I was able to skip most of the first two chapters and skim the third. Ninety minutes into the book, I had set some bookmarks and felt ready to tackle my project.I have just completed a 12:36 video with fade-in and out and audio and video transitions between scenes. I corrected color and exposure on five clips that were shot in low light. I have uploaded the finished product to my server and viewed it on line.This book is a quick start, but it is also very thorough. It is logically organized and well written, with abundant illustrations to take you through the thorny underbrush of the Premiere Pro interface. If you're looking for a firsts-rate guide to this fine, but complex program, look no further.
I have no idea why anyone wold give this book less than 5 stars. I'm a developer in PHP, Python, and Ruby. I bought a new RV and decided to start my own YouTube channel called 2PupsNCat. I wanted to learn Adobe Premiere. I'm well versed with a computer. But this book is perfect for beginners and experts. Covers everything you need. Easy to read. I read a chapter a day and finished it in 2 weeks. If the author is reading this (Jan), please write a book on Adobe After Effects. I'll be your fist customer.
The advertising for this book says, "Tasked-based, step-by-step instructions and loads of visuals and time-saving tips help professionals and newcomers alike quickly find and learn tasks specific to their needs."Unless your task is something like, "Delete audio submix tracks" this book is not for you. Each chapter has exhaustive explanations of each different panel.My task was nothing like that. My task was, "Take a JPEG file and an audio track and produce a video file I could burn to a DVD (with Adobe Encore)." After about an hour of reading, all I accomplished was to import my media. Reading this book to accomplish that task was like slogging through a bog to pick one flower here and another flower there. I know there are easier ways to pick flowers.I'm going to try the Adobe Classroom in a Book.
My first book which Jan Ozer authored was on Pinnacle 10.0, many years ago. I was absolutely astonished at how easy he made thoroughly learning that program. He has done the very same here (although the learning curve is admittedly somewhat more steep)! And while I also have the excellent, Adobe Creative Team book on the subject, his book provides instant gratification in terms getting the answers you need NOW, which are accompanied by more than ample illustrations! The illustrations are screenshots, some of which may require magnifying glasses for older eyes and certainly bright reading lights because the Adobe workplace itself is a dark grey for editing purposes and so are the illustrations.Another bonus is the ability to download the book digitally at no cost for reading on a computer, Kindle or other devices. About the only thing missing is a DVD. But on the other hand, his examples are so complete as to make a DVD virtually superfluous.Bottom line: As far as I'm concerned Ozer continues batting 1000!
I bought this guide after reading the good reviews AND downloading a 'sample' of it. Now that I have had it a few days and have been able to spend more time with it, I am very pleased with this manual to Premiere. I really like that most of the features of Premiere are dealt with individually so that you can find the appropriate section, read it and understand how it works and how I can use it. I have the Classroom in a Book also, but that one does not lend itself to jumping into a process without having pretty much gone through the 'learning sequence' before it. Is one "better" than the other?? I think it depends on the way YOU learn best, but for me, I like this style.I like that it can be downloaded to my Kindle and be there for casual browsing.
This is a very good book at a great Kindle price. My other choice was the Adobe classroom series, at over twice the price. With creative cloud you have access to most of the Adobe products that can enhance Premier Pro. So if you need a good working introduction to three or four Adobe products, at an over 50% savings per book, this is at least to me an issue. Now as to quality. The visual series stands out because of its screen captures and illustrations. It also has very good explanations of the visual illustrations. I just finished the visual photoshop cc book and was pleased by the depth it went into on many issues. Their Premier pro book is of the same quality. For example, video capture. On the surface this may seem like a minor issue, but if you take into account all the variables that are in play, it is nice to have a well documented section on the problems that can occur and possible solutions. I use Mac computers and Canon cameras and was pleased by the fact that so does the author. In summary, a very good book at a great Kindle price. A last a word about Kindle books. On some levels I prefer a physical book, I like to take margin notes and create my own table of contents in the back of the book, but this comes at a higher price. However, I am a retired computer professional with my eye sight not what it was once was. This is where Kindle is at its best. I have really enjoyed its magnification feature. When I find a really great computer book I will buy a physical copy and the Kindle addition. With the visual series books, a book and a Kindle book at still affordable.
