I originally found this book in a torrent compendium of science books about a decade ago.This printing by Kessinger publishing has 55 pages, because they stripped the book of all its imagery and made it into a "text" book.Leedskalnin was a layman, not a manipulative scholar.The idea that he would write a book describing numerous apparatus without one hand-drawn picture or diagram, is ludicrous.At the bottom of the cover, which the original has a picture according to p. 38, there is a small red rose with one leaf on the right side. Do not buyKessinger books.
Ed Leedskalnin's slim little book is intriguing. It presents his own interpretation of how "magnetic currents" work - and his view is a bit different from that of establishment thory of "electricity and magnetism". Nevertheless, if you keep an open mind, it is internally consistent and has some surprising insights into how "magnetic currents" flow. For example, a simultaneous two-way flow with positive "magnets" moving in one direction and negative "magnets" flowing in the opposite direction, and both of these flowing along an intertwined, spiral pathway. It reminds me of a description of James Clerk Maxwell's attempts to envision (and construct) a (physical) model of electromagnetism, using counter-rotating, elastically linked cylinders.I have one (BIG) caveat about the editions that currently let you "Look Inside" - most of them do not include (Ed's - I assume) original pencil-sketches of his equipment setups. And, without these sketches, it is almost impossible to read Ed's english language descriptions and be 100% sure of exactly what he means. I.e., there is room for confusion; the diagrams clear up this confusion. I found (and also bought) the ReadAClassic edition (ISBN: 978-1614271147, with the pictures of red-blue-and-grey horseshoe magnets in its cover) does include these diagrams. They're essential to clarifying Ed's text.
It's tough these days to get much accurate information about Edward Leedskalnin. This book helped me take a brief glimpse into this 5' tall, 100 lb. Latvian man's head. This was 1 of only two books that he wrote that are available today. The other one was "A Book in Every Home Containing Three Subjects: Ed's Sweet Sixteen, Domestic and Political Views." During his lifetime he wrote 5 pamphlets that could be purchased by tourists who visited his Coral Castle.
The confusion with this book involves the fact that the Product Page contains a Seachable book that is WRONG. It shows illustrations within the book, as was originally published. But the version of MAGNETIC CURRENT that is sent to you when ordered has NO illustrations whatever.If illustrations are a fundamental part of taking in the information (as I have heard) than this printing is a disservice to the author. You are not getting the book he wrote, which is reason enoough to reject this edition.
First of fall, the reader needs patience to take on this book. I say'book', but it is really a pamphlet, and somewhat overpriced. The author asks the reader to do certain experiments with various types of magnets which, frankly speaking, are impossible for most people to even consider attempting. However, contained within these paragraphs are real gems, clues to how the author was able to transport 30 ton megalithic blocks. Sixty years have passed, and scientists are still in the dark as to how he did it, and nobody has been able to repeat the feat since. Clearly, he knew something they do not. He was never awarded the Nobel Prize...but then again, he probably assumed that he would be killed before he could ever reveal his secrets. He was a refugee from Eastern Europe.
I order a very pleasant looking "Paperback" as the seller lists it. It contains a great photo of the most common reproduction available to show you what you are expecting to get. INSTEAD, they actually wait TWO FULL WEEKS before the item is even shipped (this is 3-5 shipping... Hahaha)and then I recieve an a crappy 11x17" PHOTO COPY folded in half and STAPLED in the the center to hold it together!! Are you JOKING? I worked in a print shop that made similar "pamphlets" and I know the cost that goes into these. I WOULD NEVER PAY $13 for $2.15 worth of paper and toner! Now I come back to complain, and behold; the photo of my order is GONE. HOW CONVENIENT. Do not buy this item unless you enjoy getting scammed and cheated by Amazon and it's LAZY & CHEAP sellers. I Personally am SO disgusted that I CANT trust amazon that my wife and I will NEVER EVER purchase from Amazon.com again. If you want a real reproduction thats worth it's value, and about the same price, Ebay has dozens that meet my expectations (which would be to get what was advertised, and promised!)DO NOT BUY
Thin paperback book about magnetism & observational do it yourself projects to help you understand magnetic polarity more clearly. I really love the hands on demonstrations it provides.
Same opinion as L. Anderson. The photos are probably left out on purpose, I mean would National Fuel, National Grid, At&t, or any of the other current monopolies want a layman to figure out these great things ?
