I’m so glad I didn’t give up on this one.This one had a lot of stuff happen but it all seemed to all happen in the last third of the book. That’s when things really took off. I mean, I was blown away with the plot twist at the end. Really it was two, but I saw one coming, but even that one I didn’t see till the end. This book is soaked with betrayal and desperation.I felt Kat’s dilemma, I mean her choice was not an easy one, and she took it very seriously. Constantly going back and forth in her head about what the ‘right’ thing to do is. All the young characters in this story have always shown an uncanny maturity, which I suppose is attributed to the danger they have been put in time and time again.Rune is as steadfast as ever in this one. He does start to show a bit more personality due to his new found freedom. Or because he is on the run he wants to shove as much living as he can in before he gets caught. Nevertheless, he shows a bit of a different side to us. The other characters I really can’t go int o too much detail in because I’m afraid I will inadvertently spoil it.I will say there isn’t much romance in this book. Which, now that I think about it, may have been why it took me so long to finish. Man, I need to branch out. 🙂Anyway, I am for sure gonna read this last book in this series soon.
I have always made sure to review A.R. Ivanovich's books as soon as i finish reading them so that i can spread my enthusiastic joy over how much i love her writing. While the first book may always be my favorite of the series i can only describe this book as "wow".So let's break this book down:Romance: as with the past two books romance does take a back seat to adventure. Even though Rune and Kat's relationship is pivotal to the plot, we don't ever experience anything hot and heavy. There are a few short kissing scenes and something a bit more intimate is alluded to but that's it. I am in no way saying that this is a bad thing, it's just a fact. I happen to actually rather enjoy that the plot isn't secondary to the sexual tension.Adventure: As per usual with the War of the Princes series thus fa, there is plenty of action and adventure. It's a fast paced page turner that's incredibly hard to put down. Also wow are there a lot of plot twists that i did not see coming. I don't want to spoil too much but Prince Varion was a bit of a surprise as was the ending to the final battle. Really didn't see that coming.Basically this was just what I needed on this dreary May day and I'm so glad it finally came out..... though i might die waiting for the next book because, jeez was it a cliff hanger ending! You're like "wait... that's it.. but what about... and.... noooooooo"So definitely read this book (of course read the other ones first) it is totally worth it!!
I've been following this series for a while and this installment is even better than the last one. The author creates such a vivid world that you just get lost in it and every character is detailed, flawed and most importantly believable. Filled with banter, adventure and just the right amount of romance, Monarch is my favorite of the series so far. The entire story I went back and forth on which Prince Katelyn should trust, but I NEVER expected some of the revelations surrounding that conflict. And that wasn't the only revelation I didn't expect. A late stage betrayal had me gaping at my Kindle while walking around my house because I was too worked up about it to even sit still. As far as action goes, this one saved most of it up for the ending and what an ending it was. The next book can't come out fast enough. To say I'm looking forward to it is a huge understatement.
And the story continues! They journey to the North to plead the help of Prince Varion. With ups and downs, traitors and friends, surprises and plans, betrayal and love, this story is an excellent addition to the series. After finishing, I feel all sorts of anxious to see how it all ends!! How will this wrap up? Gee whiz I can't wait!
I LOVE these books. I have had this marked on my calendars for months waiting for the release and once again Ivanovich delivered. I love that this isn't the end either. The story line is great and unpredictable. I love the adventure with a love story tied into it but the adventure and story line is more important than the love story. I hate when its all about getting the guy or girl and the rest of the plot is loose ends and forgotten. Great read! I hope you enjoy it too! I try to recommend these books to all my reading friends. :) I know they will not be disappointed.
Definitely shed a few tears with this one. The most intense yet!So much happens in this, but the pacing was an interesting build to it, starting off slow with details I skimmed over to all of a sudden having a party to blow my mind. And such betrayal! Ugh, I could strangle a certain character right now. Writing style was good, thought a few things lagged, but overall still an entertaining read. On to the fourth book.
