I hesitated buying this book but am so glad I did (I trusted the reviews). My mom had been a career nurse, and I always knew I did NOT want to be one. She didn't talk a lot about her job, probably because she didn't want to upset her 5 kids (or she was just too tired!), but I heard enough to know it just wasn't something I was cut out for. This book really opened my eyes and helps me appreciate nurses all the more. It actually helps me feel better regarding her death several years ago. I hope if I'm ever in the care of nurses in the future, they are like these nurses and my mom: there because they want to be, because of their compassion, because they feel that's what they were meant to do.I hate to mention this because it seems so trivial after having read the book, but it could use a little bit more editing. There were some missing words, double words, and some other minor issues. But this isn't a novel, and it doesn't detract from the purpose of this wonderful compilation. Highly recommend to anyone.

Carolyn Jourdan captured what I experienced in her own special style.Great true stories, some sad, some happy, and some downright funny things that happen in a hospital.Not many people tell the real truth about nursing, Carolyn does in an interesting way that pulls you into the life of a Nurse.A good read recommended for anyone, but especially anyone interested in a career in Nursing.
if you're not familiar with the writings of Carolyn Jourdan, this won't be the only book of hers you'll read. You will want to read all the others.Informative, shocking in some parts, and entertaining at the same time. Even when some of the information is tough, you know you're not getting fluff, but a good picture of as in this book, the art of caring nurses have given mankind.I learned, I laughed outloud, I teared up, was astonished to learn of what some people do and think is normal.When I finished reading, I was even more thankful for our care giving nurses!!
A book worth reading. I am a retired physician, the daughter of a physician and a nurse. This book is a wonderful look into the moments that define a profession. I have given copies to all the aspiring nurses I know, and have one myself. I love it!
Let me make it clear I am not a nurse. I do have a daughter wh o is.I cannot speak for her. I was concerned with a few experiences and then remembered it was their experiences and they were the truth. Not a light read but insightful and informative.
