I bought this map 2 years ago, and have lived in Beijing since. I use this map all the time - as recently as today. It is clear, easy to read, and laminated. Plus it folds easily for a backpack. As others have noted, the subway lines are outdated, but for a very clear map of the central Beijing streets, as well as the major attractions, this is the one to own. If you will travel the subways (and you should, cheap, fast, English signs and yes, crowded...) download the ExploreMetro Beijing subway map - free and invaluable.
Although this map was designed for the 2008 Beijing Olympics (and additional metro lines have been added recently), this slightly outdated map was a great resource in the China capital city in the fall of 2013.
This was designed expressly for the Olympics in 2008 (with sites for the various events, etc.). If they want to continue selling the map, they should at least take this stuff off and update the subway lines. This was a waste of money.
Love this! Such a great product. Going to be traveling to China this winter and I wouldn't dream of going without one of these maps by VanDam. Love the way they look and feel- and they always are so durable no matter how many of these trips I take. Thanks for making such a great product!
I always buy the Streetwise maps, but for some reason they don't do Beijing. I love thelaminated, foldable format. This worked well, and also shows subway stops. This is a recentmap, and I think it was probably done for the Olympics' visitors.
This is a beautifully designed map - perfect for tourist or Beijing resident. Streets are clearly marked in characters and pinyin, very useful for finding your own way or showing a taxi-driver. Points of interest are plentiful and well-chosen. The size is right, the laminated paper is durable and it is easy to open and fold close.The labelling is clear and easily legible, subway map is included as is map of the Forbidden City. VanDam Streetsmart maps of Shanghai and Hong Kong are equally excellent. Don't leave for China without them.
