I was hoping for more romance in this book. I kept reading hoping that more understanding would develop between the H and H but, that just didn't happen. It was a swashbuckling type of book. Too many other characters and too many personalities with different outlooks on life. I think that the main characters were put in the background and didn't let the romance develop in this great passion as stated in the name of the book.
Thank you Gemma Blackwood for writing a book full of intrigue and suspense! What an absolutely WONDERFUL story! I HIGHLY recommend this book! And I didn't have to skip page after page of stuff I didn't wish to read or care about! You carried the story without needing to add that stuff! Thank you again! I LOVED it and can't wait for the rest of the series!
This is the first time I have ever read a Gemma Blackwood book. Awesome, could not put it down. I can't wait for her new book, and you can bet I will read more of her books.
What a GREAT STORYLINE! This was a completely different take on a decades of feud. It was truly AMAZING how the families came together and put old stories to rest. ENJOY!
Liked the characters. Fun, interesting & captivating. The two main characters were pretty & handsome. The feud was very interesting.
A sweet historical romance. Not a lot of mystery or intrigue but a nice way to spend a couple of hours
The characters were well presented and their interactions were set up perfectly. It made one want to keep on reading to find out what they were going to do next. This is a good book for someone who likes a book with lots of action and interplay between the characters.
First, I have to confess that I have never been fond of Romeo and Juliet. Insta-love and tragedy aren't really my thing. Fortunately, however, while this story directs many nods in the direction of that well known play, it has a happy ending. This is not, strictly speaking, a retelling, but, if one knows that story, it's kind of fun to see how certain things get twisted around and how they play out in this book. Cecily Balfour and Robert Hartley hate each other when they meet. Some of it is entirely on principle, as their families have been feuding for years. And some of it is because they seem to have a knack for rubbing one another the wrong way. The more they see of one another, though, the harder it is to deny admiration and... attraction? But, with their families so at odds, how can they even stand a chance of being together? Will they be able to discover what really happened all those years ago? The editing is good. And, while I felt that Cecily and Robert's relationship started more as lust than anything else (and in a book entitled 'The Earl's Secret Passion', that isn't entirely unexpected), it does grow into love, and this book is still a clean read. It all happened quite quickly (perhaps the reason it felt that way to me), but then, sometimes those things don't take long at all. Despite that, though, the characters do tend to be reasonable human beings, and it's nice to see them learning to overcome their issues. This book is a good beginning to a new series, and I can't wait to read the stories of the other characters. I received an ARC from the author. I was not required to write a review, but chose to do so, and the opinions stated are my own.
