After reading Quasar's excellent book on Flight 19 I was looking forward to his same investigative style regarding the "Bermuda Triangle"...but I have to say I am disappointed. I think perhaps this book could use a rewrite, it certainly could have used an editor with some knowledge of the subject. Quasar does what a lot of authors have done, he starts the book by providing a long litany of disappearances of ships and aircraft going back not only decades but centuries, so many that it actually becomes tedious. After the first several dozen, we get the point. Unfortunately, as he himself points out, most of these incidents have little context, they are simply reported without any corroborating evidence or resolution, so any assumptions about a relationship to the Bermuda Triangle are just that, assumptions. Where this book starts to take a swerve off the road is when the author, in an attempt to build on the concept of unknown forces, possible natural, at work in the triangle, starts bringing in a lot of questionable information and references, like talking about the musings of psychic Edgar Cayce, for example, and his "visions" concerning ancient Atlantis. While this may have some tangential interest for those interested in the paranormal, it really has nothing to do with ships and planes disappearing under mysterious circumstances. The concept of an ancient, prehistoric civilization, either in the Caribbean (or anywhere else) is not supported by established archaeology or historical research, any such conjecture is in the realm of pseudo-science. Quasar then devotes a number of pages to the "work" of crank John Hutchinson, and his so-called Hutchinson Effect, which has not only never been corroborated by any independent scientific authority or institution, but has been admitted to be a hoax by Hutchinson himself. Yet Quasar treats it all very seriously as some unknown force that might be related to the "unknown forces" at work in the Triangle and perhaps used by the ancient Atlanteans! This is both absurd and embarrassing for any author purporting to be seriously researching this topic. Mr. Quasar mentions the Bimini "wall" and treats it as an actual ancient construct, even though it has long since been satisfactorily explained as a natural formation, and in fact there are a number of similar formations around the world. Legitimate archaeology does not accept this as an actual prehistoric mega-structure. There are no archaeological artifacts or other evidence on Bimini or anywhere in Bermuda that supports the idea of an ancient megalithic culture there. I was tempted to abandon the book at this point, but there was more to come, unfortunately. In the next section the author begins discussing past catastrophes and a global flood event which is also simply not supported by any established science. He even makes the claim that if the polar ice caps melted the Earth would be flooded, which is simply not true, though sea levels would rise significantly. It seems obvious that the author is really out of his element here, choosing to get his information from crank sources, or else just winging it without consulting legitimate experts on climate, geology, or archaeology. Sadly, I've lost respect for Mr. Quasar. He should rewrite this book or disown it, if he has any desire to be taken seriously.That being said, there is probably a lot here that will interest fans of the Bermuda Triangle "mystery", certainly I found the eyewitness accounts to be interesting and well presented, I just wish the pseudo-science had been left out of this book.
What a fantastic book! I was swept up early on! The author really knows how to keep a great mystery going! I was a little behind in the middle of the book when he got very technical about science related stuff. Somewhat over my head. And the Atlantis thing. A little "out there." But he has great research to support it, but it is highly speculative in our modern era, and quite complicated. Overall, I appreciated the fact that he covered every avenue of the Triangle, all the hoopla, all the speculation, all the history, all the possible scenarios. My husband is an airline pilot and has flown the area over and over with never a problem. Hmmmm. However, if you look at the history of missing ships and planes with never a trace to be found, it begs for more research. But today, few planes and few ships have any problems. Is this because our technology is newer and more sophisticated? But still how to explain planes on approach to Miami and St. Thomas when all of a sudden they are gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mystery indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great writer! Great book! Loved it so much I bought his other book!
This is the very best book I have ever read on the Bermuda Triangle. I wish I could give it 200 stars. It goes beyond just the Bermuda Triangle tosome scientific discoveries and information that will blow your hat off. I am not going to go any further. I want you toread this for yourself. If you are interested in the Bermuda Triangle or even pre-history, this is the book for you. It is a MUST!Gian Quasar outdid him or herself on this book!
Fascinating book that keeps you guessing where it eventually is headed. Brings together a lot of themes and tries to find a common thread. Lot of scientific explanation that sometimes can be challenging to understand - may need to re read some sections or look up other sources of information. Also some of the paragraphs on factual lists of disappearances not clear or don’t have an end summation. Not just a book about the Bermuda Triangle but really a book on life and answering big questions - like what is time? Recommend this book to people looking for a more scientific review of some of the world’s mysteries, including the triangle, UFO’s and legends of lost civilizations. Mostly well written and very intellectually satisfying.
